About FIRST

Our team is proud to call itself one of thousands of FIRST teams across the globe. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) promotes science, engineering, public speaking and presentations, math, teamwork, and creative and innovative thinking. The FIRST program is open to anyone - there are lego robotics teams for kids as young as three and four. At any competition, you can see how excited people are about robotics. Teams have everything from team cheers and t-shirts to full mascot costumes and flags. At competitions, we are able to meet with people from around the world. We also get to speak to professional engineers about potential careers. Our teams learn a lot through FIRST, and we encourage you to find a team in your area.

History of Hempfield Robotics

The Hempfield Robotics Club was founded in 2012 by mentor and coach Wren Hensgen. The goal of the club is to provide a place for students to learn, share ideas, and work as a part of a team. Since then, the club has expanded to include over twenty members and has split into two FTC teams.

How to Join

The Hempfield Robotics Club is open to anyone who currently attends Hempfield High School. You don't have to be a technology, engineering, or math person to join! Our teams need students with knowledge of CAD, public speaking, graphics, website design, coding, media, fundraising, and much more.

If you wish to join, contact hempfieldftc@gmail.com or come to one of our after-school meetings on a Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday meetings are held in room 132 and Thursday meetings are held in room 130. We can't wait to see you there!
